There’s definitely no shortage of bonding materials in today’s dental marketplace. And in an ideal situation, most dentists would probably say that most of them work fairly well. But how often do those “ideal” situations occur? For most clinicians, the answer is a resounding “almost never.” Instead, clinicians are taught from their first day of dental school to always be prepared for a multitude of environments, not least of which is the dreaded duo—one that’s too moist, or one that’s too dry.

Active Moisture Control to the Rescue

Dentsply Sirona’s Prime&Bond active is an active moisture control dental adhesive that features the company’s patented Active Guard Technology, allowing it to easily adapt to varying levels of moisture. The universal dental adhesive is suitable for both direct and indirect restorations, and its unique formulation makes it perfect for a wide range of restorative situations. The secret lies in a well-balanced combination of both hydrophobic and hydrophilic properties—ensuring full coverage and penetration at varying moisture levels. Regardless of whether the dentin is very moist or very dry, Prime&Bond active offers a thin, uniform, and gap-free reliable bond that expertly guards against microleakage, postop sensitivity, and adhesive failure.

“Class V restorations can be challenging for a variety of reasons,” shared Chris Campbell, DMD. “Having a bonding agent that performs well in less-than-ideal situations is very appealing to me. Prime&Bond active chases moisture away, and if the dentin is a bit too dry or a bit too moist, this bonding material still gives me a nice shiny dentin appearance after application.”

A Versatile Adhesive

Prime&Bond active can be used for all indications and with all etching methods. It features a low viscosity for easy application, a flip-top cap for 1-handed opening, and a working time of up to 30 minutes in a closed CliXdish mixing well. This helps reduce waste, especially when treating multiple restorations.

“I’ve been using this adhesive for well over a year now, even with many patients who routinely present with less-than-ideal clinical settings, largely due to their age,” Dr. Campbell added. “Since I’ve been using Prime&Bond active, I have had zero issues with postop sensitivity or debonds.”
