The calcium and phosphate react with fluoride in the saliva to create protective fluorapatite. This gives Embrace more staying power than other treatments and varnishes.
“In the past, we may have used a rinse or foam, but they don’t last as long as the varnish,” said Carter-Cherelus. “And Embrace Varnish is time-released, which is a benefit. It is activated by the saliva and is incorporated onto the tooth.”
Benefits Beyond the Chair
It’s important to let patients know that fluoride varnish is safe and that it will provide them with continued cavity protection after they leave the office. Carter-Cherelus notes that Embrace Varnish doesn’t abrade from the tooth and stays on the tooth longer than other options. Then, there’s the taste—Embrace Varnish actually tastes good, which is critical when treating children.
“If the taste is pleasing, children will be more compliant,” Carter-Cherelus says, “allowing the process to go quicker without a disruption.”
