3Shape Unite

New open platform brings world-leading dental companies, solutions, and labs together so cases can be managed with choice and ease.

Dr. Jonathan Ng shares why he believes 3Shape Unite will dramatically improve communications with labs; streamline dentists’ workflows and add to productivity; and make it easier to adapt to digital dentistry and take practices to the next level.

3Shape Unite

I love to be on the forefront of technology, so I beta test products and services whenever I’m invited to do so. When I heard about 3Shape Unite, I was truly excited to try it and share the experience with my fellow colleagues. Unite is a unique collaboration between 3Shape and other market leaders, including Henry Schein, Ivoclar Vivadent, and Straumann, creating a revolutionary software tool that streamlines digital workflows, increases lab resources, and enhances communication between the practice and the lab.

Improved Lab Communication

As a prosthodontist, I deal with all different aspects of workflows—from treatment planning to implant surgery, to final restorations. Within each of these workflows, there are a lot of moving parts that include taking, saving, organizing, and then sending the various image types to the lab. The lab then must go through a similar organizational nightmare before they start working on my case. It’s a time-consuming and clunky process. In addition, the data transmission is not secure. This could lead to costly mistakes that affect office productivity and inconvenience the patient.

3Shape Unite breaks through these communication barriers. The software is an open platform that allows access to everything in one place, which makes it so much easier for the lab to deliver a successful product. I can say from experience that being more organized and able to communicate more efficiently with my lab is a key to my success.

Seamless Integration, Initiative Workflow

I currently use 3Shape TRIOS intraoral scanners, so working in this new software feels very familiar, but you do not have to be a TRIOS owner to appreciate this platform. With an intuitive interface and a simplified lab order form, it’s designed to feel familiar with other technology that we use in everyday life.

When I teach and lecture about digital dentistry, dentists say to me, “I wish I could have all the relevant files in one simple place. Because I have to work in so many different software programs that don’t talk to each other, I’m afraid of missing something.” I never had an answer to address that concern, but now I can direct them to Unite. 3Shape has done an incredible job of bringing it all together and supporting dentists in the use of their scans and walking them through the next steps until they choose a lab and send the file.

Connect to Your Lab or Access New Partners

In the past, research and communication with a new lab was so challenging, and dentists shied away from engaging new lab resources. Using this technology, dentists can now easily find and connect with network labs across the world. On this platform, learning about lab resources, getting reviews of their work, and sending a case to them is all in one place, which enables the smoothest of communications for a successful outcome.

Taking Your Practice to the Next Level

In my lectures, I talk about the many types of intraoral scanners and other available digital assets. Not every practice will need the agility that the Unite platform offers. But for those dentists and prosthodontists who are doing implant surgery, smile design, esthetic work, aligner therapy, and more, I’d encourage you to consider the 3Shape Unite platform. You will work easier, faster, and with more efficiency
