Flavor can make or break a patient's experience in the dental chair, especially when it comes to fluoride varnish. A poor-tasting fluoride can quickly undo the positive feelings that come from a successful appointment, forcing hygienists to find products that not only work well but taste great.
“In my experience, most patients seem to prefer fruit flavors,” shared Tara Cabral, RDH, BS, who recently tried Centrix’s FluoroDose in its new DraganBerry flavor—named after Centrix founder William Dragan, DDS. “I typically apply FluoroDose on high caries risk patients, and most patients who I used the DraganBerry flavor on had a positive response to it compared with other varnishes.”
An Extra Boost of Protection
The 5% sodium fluoride varnish sweetened with xylitol has no bitter aftertaste, along with a smooth, natural-looking, and nearly invisible texture that dries in seconds upon contact with saliva. DraganBerry joins existing FluoroDose flavors of Mint, Bubble Gum, Melon, Cherry, and Caramel—the latter of which has been a patient pleaser for Georgia hygienist Donna Shewbert, who frequently uses FluoroDose on her senior patient population.
“Since Medicare has an option for dental insurance now, our geriatric population is increasing, and these plans are covering fluoride at 100%,” she shared. “I see lots of senior patients with poor home care who come in with a long list of medications that cause dry mouth and lead to root decay. I feel FluoroDose provides them with a small booster of care to help prevent root and recurrent decay.”
Great Taste with an Easy Application
Designed for maximum convenience, FluoroDose is packaged in a patented hygienic LolliTray, which contains a Benda Brush applicator for quick and easy swipe-on application—simply peel back the cover, dip in the brush, mix, and apply.
“FluoroDose is easy to apply with the brush and went on smoothly," said Shewbert. Cabral agreed that it was simple to use, sharing, “The application is very easy and it goes on more uniformly than some other varnishes I have used. It had a transparent appearance and dried smoothly on the teeth."
FluoroDose remains on the tooth for 4 to 6 hours for optimum fluoride uptake and contains no lactose, gluten, or nuts. “I felt FluoroDose dried on the teeth without clumps, appeared to dry tooth colored, and wasn't as sticky compared with other varnishes,” said Shewbert. “I personally tried the DraganBerry flavor and liked the taste.
