Ask a dozen dentists for their secret to exceptional polishing, and you’ll likely get a dozen different answers. But Phil Aurbach, DMD, recently discovered something new to add to his toolbox in his Westwood, NJ, practice. A recent addition to SS White’s Jazz line of polishers, the Jazz Twist Polishing System solves a common problem found with other polishing systems.

“My other polishers are very flexible discs,” Dr. Aurbach shared. “However, sometimes they don’t hold contour when you spin them. These Jazz Twist polishers have a bit more rigidity to them and also hold their shape better.”

Get into the Grooves

The Jazz Twist Polishing System is suitable for finishing both indirect and direct restorations. The polishers are also autoclavable and available in a variety of grits and sizes.

Easy to use, Jazz Twist polishers never require paste, and they can easily adapt to the contour of the tooth surface without removing anatomy from the occlusal surface. The polishers' unique design allows them to efficiently polish both occlusal and interproximal surfaces while being especially effective at reaching grooves.

Adapts to Every Surface

The Jazz Twist Polishing System includes:

• Jazz Twist for Composite: 2-step system with fine and medium grit options; provides a high shine, including on very hard composites

• Jazz Twist for Porcelain: 3-step system with coarse, medium, and fi ne grit options; allows for surface corrections without additional glazing; Occluflex polishers feature twisted polishing bristles that reach deep into fissures

• Jazz Twist for Zirconia: Polishers with a high diamond concentration in medium and fine grits; compatible with feldspathic, lithium disilicate, and zirconia materials; use to help avoid repeated glazing after retouching IPR

Polishing with a Twist

“I had a posterior crown that came back from the lab with very high occlusion,” said Dr. Aurbach, who has been in practice for 14 years. “I started adjusting the bite on it, but I didn't want to take too much off and possibly affect the integrity of the crown, since the opposing tooth had an older composite restoration that would need to be replaced sooner rather than later. I decided to adjust the bite by removing a little from the opposing composite, so I used both the Jazz Twist composite and porcelain polishers to finish the case."

Overall, Dr. Aurbach was impressed by Jazz Twist. “I liked them. They worked well and were easy to use—just pop it in and polish!” he added.
