ACTIVA KIDS
Designed for pediatric dentistry, ACTIVA KIDS is a bioactive restorative material with natural esthetics, long-term durability, and dual-curing capabilities.
When treating children, you may need some tricks up your sleeve to ease their anxiety, encourage them to sit still, and, ideally, get them out of the chair as quickly as possible. In addition, you may want to be equipped with dental materials that are specially designed for the unique challenges encountered when treating children.
One unique restorative composite that falls into this category is Pulpdent’s ACTIVA KIDS BioACTIVE-RESTORATIVE. Pulpdent says the product is “inspired by nature and created for kids, like vitamins for their teeth.” With its bioactive properties, ACTIVA KIDS is a material that provides long-term benefits to your youngest patients to help them maintain strong, healthy teeth.
“The bioactive properties are the number one reason why I use ACTIVA KIDS.”
- Gary Berman, DDS, Belleville, MI
One dentist who understands the many benefits of ACTIVA KIDS extremely well is Dr. Gary Berman, who seems to like everything about this restorative material. He said, “I use it for all posterior restorations in pediatric patients.”
An Esthetic, Dual-cured, Durable Restorative Solution
ACTIVA KIDS is easy to dispense with its 5-mL syringe and bendable automix tip. “I like the delivery system, and the handling properties are excellent,” noted Dr. Berman. “Although the material has a self-cure component, I find that I am able to place and light cure several restorations [on one patient] without replacing the mixing tip,” he added. The formula will light cure up to 2 mm in 20 seconds to speed up the process, or it will self cure in 2 ½ to 3 minutes. “Although I always light cure, I like the dual curing ability, and it polishes easily, allowing me to minimize my time in placement and finishing,” Dr. Berman shared. An esthetic restorative solution that’s tolerant of moisture, ACTIVA KIDS continually adapts to tooth structure and uniquely seals margins, providing a durable restoration. “I have found that ACTIVA KIDS restorative material is extremely resistant to fracture,” said Dr. Berman. “I use a 2-part bonding adhesive system with it, and I have had minimal ‘redos’ these past few years due to its strength.”
Pointing out another notable benefit of using ACTIVA KIDS, Dr. Berman said, “Its ability to cover silver diamine fluoride staining is desirable. I like the bright white [opaque] color and have found that it will cover any staining from the use of silver diamine fluoride.”
Bioactive Properties
ACTIVA KIDS BioACTIVE-RESTORATIVE stimulates the natural remineralization process by releasing and recharging calcium, phosphate, and fluoride ions. It penetrates the tooth surface to protect and preserve natural tooth structure while eliciting a natural response that restores from within—with apatite formation that fills micro-gaps and seals margins against microleakage.
“The bioactive properties are the number one reason why I use ACTIVA KIDS,” shared Dr. Berman. “I truly believe I am providing the best service and restorative material available to my patients, and I love discussing with the parents the release and recharging of the fluoride in the product.” After sharing the material’s benefits, he said parents “understand and really appreciate the fact that we have chosen to use a product that is so beneficial for their child.”
After using ACTIVA KIDS in his practice for several years, Dr. Berman said, “I do not remember a single case of post-operative sensitivity,” which he believes is probably due to “careful isolation along with the material’s moisture tolerance and ability to bond so well.” In addition to its ease of use, ideal esthetics, dual-curing capabilities, long-term durability, and bioactive properties, ACTIVA KIDS is safe for children and contains no BPA, no Bis-GMA, and no BPA derivatives. If you ask Dr. Berman, it’s safe to say that this bioactive restorative material is ideally suited for pediatric dentistry.
