iTero Element 2: boosting Case Acceptance

Efficient scanning, fast image processing, and seamless connectivity streamline the digital workflow, while visualization tools allow patients to better understand their diagnosis and treatment options

Itero Element 2 scannerIntraoral scanners have become synonymous with faster crown delivery and the ability to offer patients same-day dentistry. But through its enhanced visualization and diagnostic tools, Align Technology’s iTero Element family of intraoral scanners proves that scanners have evolved beyond simply taking digital impressions for the lab or an inhouse milling unit. DPS evaluators have come to rely on the iTero Element 2 scanner’s essential patient education tools, as well as its fast image processing, easy lab submission, and convenient CAD and milling interface that make it easy to create consistent restorative outcomes for their patients.

“Our restorative workflow is streamlined by the use of the iTero Element 2,” said Dr. Jeremy Schell, who depends on the scanner for restorative treatment and Invisalign clear aligner cases. Once an impression is taken, he said, the scans can easily be manipulated with a touchscreen to view margins and draw of the restoration. Because files are sent directly to the lab, he said delivery turnaround time has decreased and the restorations fit with a higher degree of accuracy.

“This makes seating appointments quicker with less adjustments,” Dr. Schell added.

Boosting Case Acceptance

The iTero Element 2 is an excellent patient education tool, with the ability to show patients concrete evidence of a problem using HD color images displayed on a large touchscreen. While the patient is in the chair, clinicians can use iTero visualization tools to present treatment options and show patients progress over time, helping them visualize the solution and more readily accept treatment.

Dr. Schell says iTero’s TimeLapse Technology and Invisalign Outcome Simulator have been invaluable tools for showing patients real-time data, including the effects of malocclusion and bruxism. “The TimeLapse feature allows you to show your patients changes from wear and crowding over time. It gives them a look inside their mouth that they haven’t seen to help clarify the recommended treatment,” he explained. Since his practice began using iTero Element 2 as a demonstration tool, Dr. Schell says treatment acceptance has increased drastically, especially Invisalign cases.

By combining convenient scanning with accurate and reliable digital impressions, the iTero Element family of scanners promises to streamline the digital workflow while delivering better visualization to patients—a win-win for the patient and dental practice.

Upgrade to the ITero Element 5D

The newest addition to the iTero family is the iTero Element 5D imaging system, which combines advanced scanning technology with artificial intelligence to streamline the diagnosis and treatment process.

ITero Element 5D imaging• Near-infrared imaging (NIRI) technology scans the internal tooth structure in real-time to aid in detecting and monitoring interproximal caries lesions above the gingiva—without using radiation
• Integrated dental imaging system records 3D, intraoral color, and NIRI with a single scan, and enables scan comparison over time using TimeLapse Technology
• View multiple dimensions of data and virtually manipulate the model for a comprehensive diagnostic view
