Ever place a layer of composite, have it exactly where you want it, only to have it stick to your instrument and ruin your expert placement? I have. It is a exasperating waste of time. To avoid this frustration many doctors dip their instrument in their light-cured bonding agent to act as a lubricant. This certainly eliminates the stickiness but leaves a layer of light-cured bonding resin within your restorations, ultimately weakening the final restoration and potentially leading to marginal staining or excess flash or build up of light-cured bonding resin on your restoration.
