Cutting-Edge Imaging Technology

A CBCT that gives clinicians more accurate patient information, which leads to more detailed diagnoses

When giving your patients a diagnosis, the most important thing is that you have all of the facts. Giving patients the most accurate information possible is key when you’re devising a treatment plan or giving a professional opinion. To accomplish that, you need to have clear, precise images.

The Planmeca Viso CBCT unit is Planmeca’s ideal combination of premium image quality and high-end usability. Consisting of two CBCT units—the Planmeca G5 and the Planmeca G7—both of which offer the same image quality and features, and differ only in their volume sizes, the Planmeca Viso units are the ideal imaging machines for any practice. The Planmeca G7’s volume sizes can be adjusted between 3x3 and 30x30 cm, while the Planmeca G5  supports volume sizes from 3x3 to 20x17 cm.

Dr. Maria-Isabel Atique, an orthodontist in San Antonio, TX, uses the Planmeca Viso G7 in her practice. She began using 3D imaging so that she could acquire as much information as possible from her scans.

“I wanted to be able to develop more comprehensive diagnoses, evaluate the airway, and to develop better treatment plans.” Dr. Atique also finds it convenient to be able to make decisions on the spot and not have to send the patient elsewhere for a scan and schedule a follow-up visit to talk about treatment.

In orthodontics, patients often get second opinions after an initial consultation. When Dr. Atique has patients come in for a second opinion, she finds that she can give them a more comprehensive evaluation with the Planmeca Viso than some other doctors might be able to with a different system. The parents in the consultation see that difference and, according to Dr. Atique, they’re happy to have as much information as possible.

Difficult Diagnoses Made Simple

Beyond patients’ mouths, Dr. Atique can see other issues, such as problems with the airways or sinuses. “There are many things that I can see now on a regular basis with the Planmeca Viso, including information I wasn’t able to give patients before,” she explained. With her Planmeca Viso, Dr. Atique has seen two cases of Silent Sinus Syndrome, a serious condition in which one of the sinuses becomes smaller and smaller, potentially causing facial asymmetry, diplopia, and enophthalmos. “In these cases, both patients needed surgery immediately,” shared Dr. Atique. “The Planmeca Viso made a big difference in early detection and intervention for these 2 patients.”

Ultra Low Dose Radiation

Along with the superior quality of the images, Dr. Atique also values Planmeca’s Ultra Low Dose Radiation. “Patient exposure is a big concern,” noted Dr. Atique. “This low dose radiation is one way to address this issue.”

Clinicians don’t need to be hesitant about using a 3D CBCT machine on their patients because the Planmeca Ultra Low Dose reduces patient exposure. All Planmeca CBCT units have the capability to acquire an image with lower patient radiation than standard 2D panoramic imaging systems. “It’s a huge benefit because I’m not exposing patients any more than necessary and I’m getting a tremendous amount of information about my patients, helping me provide the best care,” said Dr. Atique.

Overall, Dr. Atique and her staff have found a number of benefits from the features that the Planmeca Viso units have to offer, including reduced patient radiation exposure and being able to gather more information to make an accurate diagnosis quickly and develop the ideal treatment plan. “We’re getting so much more out of our 3D images,” concluded Dr. Atique.
