DS Core: Making the Digital Connection

Want efficient digital workflows with connected devices? DS Core stands for time-saving data exchange during milling and 3D printing

Don’t blink! Technology moves at lightning speed, and today’s new products will likely be eclipsed by even better innovations—maybe even tomorrow. Besides keeping up with technology like 3D printing and chairside milling, dentists face the added challenge of how to integrate this equipment into their offices and daily treatment workflows.

Maintaining a fully digital practice in Orono, MN, Dr. Mike Skramstad believes the only way to ensure a streamlined workflow with the latest 3D printing and milling technology is to tie it together with DS Core.

“With DS Core, everything is in 1 location," he said. "I can be anywhere and access patient data, as well as collaborate with dentists, labs, and partners.”

DS Core is an open cloud-based software offering seamless integrations with Dentsply Sirona equipment like CEREC Primemill and Primeprint Solution. It also connects a dental practice with their specialty network and favorite labs to share case files, order services, and collaborate on patient care.

"A big advantage of DS Core is that we can now do the design on a separate workstation before sending it to the mill or 3D printer directly from there," said Dr. Skramstad. "Before, we designed the crown on the acquisition unit of Primescan because it was the only place where CEREC software was available."

CEREC Primemill is a grinding and milling unit that makes chairside restorations easier and faster. A high-speed setup with 2 spindles and 4 motors provides precise margins and smooth surfaces.

“Primemill is our primary modality for indirect restorations, and we are using it for permanent restorations like crowns, bridges, abutment crowns, and veneers," shared Dr. Skramstad.

Fast, Accurate 3D Printing

As an adjunct to Primemill, Dr. Skramstad uses Primeprint Solution, an end-to-end medical-grade 3D printing solution for dental applications. It's his go-to for removable devices like splints, surgical guides, and models, and it's converted his practice to a 100% digital workflow.

“I chose Primeprint for 3 reasons: integration, ease of use, and safety,” shared Dr. Skramstad, adding that he can print any nonpermanent application, from provisionals to surgical guides for implant cases.

“Overall, our Primescan, Primemill, and Primeprint are all integrated and held together by DS Core, so it’s a very efficient solution for me,” he continued. “No other mill or 3D printer on the market work together as seamlessly as these Dentsply Sirona products do.”
