JOSHUA GRENIER, DMD

A 2015 graduate of Boston University’s Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine, Dr. Grenier completed a 2-year Advanced Education in General Dentistry residency with the U.S. Air Force. Today, he is an associate dentist at a practice in Coventry, RI, where he provides a range of comprehensive dentistry, including IV sedation, digital dentistry, and dental implants. He also is the owner of Precision Removable, a dental laboratory in Rhode Island that focuses on addition manufacturing of dental prosthetics and surgical guides. In recent years, he has lectured to other dentists on the benefits of IV sedation and 3D printing.

Sometimes, embracing the basics can be refreshing—from the comforting jingle of coins in a piggy bank to the satisfying sizzle of a gooey grilled cheese sandwich. For Dr. Joshua Grenier, going “back to basics” takes on an entirely new significance.

“I did a 2-year residency at Keesler Air Force Base, which is home to the U.S. Air Force Dental Research & Consultation Service,” he shared. “It was an awesome opportunity, and I actually got to do some research with them. There are a lot of dentists who work in the Department of Veterans Affairs, so we tested a lot of dental materials for government use.”

In addition to testing the latest and greatest adhesive systems, Dr. Grenier took away something even more important from his time working with the U.S. Air Force. “They have a whole philosophy around what makes a good bonding agent, and it’s based on their own research and unbiased testing. I’ve really carried that mentality forward as I evaluate bonding agents in my practice,” he shared.

Bonding That Just Works

For Dr. Grenier, Rodin Bond fits the bill. The versatile, light-cured adhesive is not only designed for both direct and indirect bonding applications but also is uniquely formulated for the specific demands of 3D-printed restorations. The adhesive system features cutting-edge glass filler technology akin to the advancements in the Rodin 3D resin line. This strengthens the hybrid zone and deeply permeates dentin tubules, delivering exceptional bond strength that outpaces conventional unfilled adhesive systems.

“When it comes to Rodin Bond, Pac-Dent took an uncompromising approach to making a bonding agent. They went back to what’s worked and improved it,” added Dr. Grenier. “They added a desensitizer and improved upon the monomers, and as a result, the bond strength improved.”

Clinicians can enhance the strength of Rodin Bond even further by pairing it with SensiGuard, a 2-in-1 desensitizer and primer that promotes bonding, seals dentin tubules to prevent sensitivity, and reduces the risk of caries formation beneath the restoration.

“Having a desensitizer the second you etch means that you seal all the dentinal tubules and you’re going to have greatly reduced postop sensitivity, which is extremely useful,” said Dr. Grenier. “If you prep a crown, you don’t want the patient to need endo, which is something that patients appreciate, too.”

Versatility to Boot

Rodin Bond and SensiGuard use a cutting-edge flip-top cap design that enables accurate 1-drop adhesive dispensing with a single hand. This reduces waste and streamlines the clinical workflow, ensuring smooth application.

“You can use Rodin Bond for everything, from veneers to composites, basically anywhere you need the absolute best bonding agent you can get,” Dr. Grenier shared. “Sometimes, you can get away with simplified bonding, but it really does make a difference when you’re using the best, and that allows you to use it for so many different things. It’s very versatile.”

He added that when it comes to inventory, stocking even 5 different bonding agents is cumbersome, and on top of that, no dentist wants to take a chance and end up redoing their work.

“You could argue that the addition of etching is an extra step, but having to redo something is easily 10 extra steps. I think that’s really where Rodin Bond shines. It’s a good bonding agent that you can trust for everything,” Dr. Grenier concluded.
