Isolite keeps your youngest patients safe and comfortable during treatment, while improving practice efficiencies and final outcomes
The No. 1 reason Dr. Adrien Theriot uses the Zyris Isolite is simple: It keeps her patients safe. “Kids can be wiggly, kids can gag, and when they're sedated, their protected reflexes are reduced,” the Houston-based pediatric dentist said. “I don't want them to swallow or aspirate something, whether it be a bur, a crown, or a cotton roll. I have to prevent those types of things from happening, and Isolite does that for me.”
Dr. Theriot began using Isolite about 7 years ago and relies on it to maintain a dry field for her sealant and composite work, which make up a large portion of her treatment at Smiles for Kids Pediatric Dentistry. Isolite keeps the lip, tongue, and cheeks retracted, and she doesn’t have to worry about moisture.
Isolite allows Dr. Theriot to practice more efficiently. Unlike rubber dams, and their uncomfortable clamps, she doesn’t have to anesthetize a patient’s tooth just to use the Isolite. She and her team are able to work across multiple quadrants, allowing them to complete all treatment on one side of the mouth at the same time. Patients spend less time in the chair, and are more comfortable.
Making Isolation Fun
While some kids are hesitant when they first see the Isolite, it doesn’t take long for Dr. Theriot to change their minds. She describes it as a “squishy jellyfish” that lights up and drinks all the water so they don’t “taste anything yucky while she’s washing away the sugar bugs.”
“I show them it has a cool straw and let them hear the suction,” she said. “I let them squish and play with it to show them it's not going to hurt. I build rapport and gain their trust, and by the end of the appointment they’re proud because they’ve accomplished something.” With the built-in illumination, Dr. Theriot doesn’t have to use the light on her loupes or her overhead light, which can be less intimidating to her young patients. Eliminating that extra weight from her loupes also helps with ergonomics.
It Just Makes Sense
Dr. Theriot describes Isolite as a game changer. You don’t have to worry about the composite falling out, sealants coming off, or recurrent decay because you didn’t have proper isolation. Kids have a better experience and stay compliant during treatment.
“If a child tastes something 'yucky' like etch or bonding material, you can lose cooperation in seconds,” she said. “If patients stay safe and comfortable, you can provide treatment efficiently and quickly. Isolite fi ts easily into the pediatric dentistry toolbox.”
