Even if you know that your patients want and need implants, it can be diffi cult to locate the best entry point
It’s no secret that most general practitioners don’t get any surgical training while in dental school. Then, when they step out into practice and try their hand at implant placement, they realize that they’re not only drilling into tooth, but drilling into bone. It’s different. Which is what makes Biotech Dental’s Kontact Implant System such a wonderful option.
The Kontact system is easy to use right out of the gate and it’s very teachable. It doesn’t take long to go through the steps and show doctors what they’re trying to accomplish. You want a system that’s going to allow you to work up to more challenging cases without having to purchase all kinds of new parts and pieces or a second kit, and the Kontact system allows that to happen.
Great for GPsOne aspect of the system that I really like is that there are 2 different drilling systems in the same surgical kit—one for hard bone and the other for soft bone. It’s very difficult to teach a doctor to place an aggressively designed implant into hard bone. They may end up over-drilling or need to try several different techniques to get it to fit. The Kontact system offers an implant with a thread design that is not quite as aggressive, and is designed to be placed into hard bone. It’s easier to place yet very stable. To me, Biotech recognized that doctors want something simpler. They want a system where they can do a little bit of drilling and place the implant without having to fight it. From this perspective, the manufacturer has covered a lot of bases with one kit, which is great for the novice dentist.
Designed for Long-Term SuccessKontact implants allow for platform switching, which uses prosthetic abutments with an emergence diameter that is smaller than the diameter of the implant neck. The significance of this is that it simplifies the prosthetics, while the actual platform design created by Biotech allows for the soft tissue to heal around the abutment very strongly. That's the key to long-term success.
I also appreciate the overall design of the implant, especially Kontact S+, which allows for deeper threads that encourage maximum bone-implant contact in cases with low bone density. When you have that, it allows the implant to be very, very stable in soft bone. That's important because if any micromovement occurs around the implant during the very beginning stages of healing, the soft tissue will fi ll in around that implant. You may not even realize it, but when you go to uncover the implant and prepare for a crown, the implant will wiggle. The Kontact implant’s design and breadth ensure maximum stability—effectively avoiding this scenario. |
