With an ever-expanding line of dental equipment, materials, and PPE, Henry Schein Products has at its core a primary goal of promoting dental solutions that can make treatment easier for dentists and more comfortable for patients. That includes the newest additions to the manufacturer's Maxima line of performance handpieces and small equipment, as well as its ACCLEAN family of preventive products.

A High-Intensity Curing Light

First up is the Maxima Advanced 3000 LED Curing Light, a lightweight, pen-style instrument that offers 2 key pluses for busy restorative workflows: high power and a host of convenient features. In fact, it's the latest addition to the Carmel, IN, armamentarium of Brandon Tiek, DDS.

“I’ve been using this curing light every day since it arrived and I love it!” Dr. Tiek shared. “If you are in the market for a new curing light, I would definitely take a close look at this light. I think any dentist will love the ease of use, ease of cleaning, and simplicity of storing and charging.”

Dr. Tiek is particularly partial to the Maxima Advanced 3000 because of its long list of helpful features, including its high-intensity light designed to accelerate curing, reduce procedure times, and minimize the risk of retreatment. It also has intuitive navigation keys, and thanks to dual-wavelength technology, the Maxima Advanced 3000 ensures thorough curing of composite materials by reaching a curing depth of up to 3 mm.

“I have used it for curing bond layers, resin restorations, ortho attachments, and for crown cementation,” he added.

Compact and Easy to Use

In addition to a 2-year warranty and replaceable battery cartridges designed for continuous operation and minimal downtime, the light offers easy access to 4 standard curing modes, including a gradual ramp-up mode to ensure complete curing.

“I really like the size of the light, as well as the ergonomics,” Dr. Tiek said. “The end of the light is very small, which means it can fi t into tight or difficult-to-reach areas, and I love the small footprint for storing and charging. The toggle switch is simple to use, and the device is encased within an elastomer material that is easy to wipe down and clean—there are no crevices to trap debris.”

The Beauty of Hands-Free HVE

New to Henry Schein Products' preventive portfolio is the ACCLEAN Hands-Free High Volume Evacuation (HVE) device, designed to boost patient comfort as well as clinician efficiency. An effortless suction solution, the device is designed for evacuation, isolation, retraction, and maintaining a dry fi eld.

It’s a “keeper” for Heather Locker, RDH, in Flint, MI, who's used a wide variety of hands-free evacuators throughout her 23-year career, none of which have worked as she hoped—until now.

Comfortable for Patients

“The ACCLEAN Hands-Free HVE is probably the best hands-free device that I have used so far!” she shared. “It is very easy to place in the patient’s mouth, and my patients have told me that it is very comfortable during use.”

BPA-free and not made with natural rubber latex, the ACCLEAN Hands-Free HVE sets up quickly, easily integrates with existing HVE systems, and features a quick connect/disconnect adapter, which makes a seamless connection to existing dental unit hardware and enables the hose to stay upright. Besides scaling and root planing, Locker uses the evacuator with an ultrasonic scaler, and she reaches for it when treating patients of all ages.

Safety in Numbers

Available in 2 sizes—standard and mini, which is 25% smaller—the device has a patented design that allows for 280º suction. It also lowers contaminant exposure in the operatory by reducing aerosols up to 87%.1,2

Additionally, a U-shaped connector attaches to a leaf-shaped mouthpiece that is made of a soft, custom-blend polymer for increased patient comfort.

“It helps out tremendously,” shared Locker, who wishes it had been available during the pandemic because of its aerosol reduction. “Good evacuation is essential because it’s a key component of proper infection control and optimal clinical practice. It also improves visibility and access to the treatment area, resulting in a more thorough cleaning and improved patient comfort.”
