No More Retraction Cord!
Fast, gentle, and absorbent, Traxodent is a hemodent paste retraction system that will not irritate surrounding tissue and is easier to use than traditional retraction cord
In the fast-paced, highly competitive world that is modern dentistry today, a key asset for any dental product is ease of use. For Scott Nakamura, DMD, who manages Integrated Dental Care in Exton, PA, the fact that Traxodent is easy to use—never once causing an issue with irritation of surrounding tissues—is the reason he relies on it all day, everyday.
“The greatest advantage of Traxodent is its ease of use,” Dr. Nakamura explained. “Compared to other similar products, the viscosity of the material makes it very easy to place, and once placed, it stays put,” he continued.
Traxodent is a hemodent paste retraction system that provides predictable hemostasis and soft-tissue management easily and quickly—literally in just a few minutes.
Less Patient Trauma
“Before I began using Traxodent, I was using hemodent and retraction cord,” Dr. Nakamura explained. “With Traxodent, I find there is less trauma to the patient and the surrounding gingival tissues compared to packing retraction cord. You also don’t have to worry about cutting the cord too short or too long,” he continued.
Traxodent is a soft paste that produces a gentle pressure on the sulcus, while at the same time, absorbs fluids. It doesn’t irritate or discolor surrounding tissue due to the astringent effect of the aluminum chloride, enabling predictable hemostasis and retraction quickly and with less patient discomfort.
“The amount of hemostasis and retraction you get with Traxodent is comparable to what you get with using traditional cord,” Dr. Nakamura said, adding that, “Sometimes the pressure and force you use to pack the cord can induce even more bleeding in the sulcus.”
“With Traxodent, I find there is less trauma to the patient and the surrounding gingival tissues compared to packing retraction cord.”

Ergonomic Dispenser
Available in a sleek syringe with bendable tips, Traxodent offers an ergonomic unit dose dispenser and capsule and is ideal for digital impressioning, crown and bridge with a retraction cap or cord, routine hemostasis, and displacing the gingiva before a CAD/CAM scan for a crisp image without the soft tissue obscuring the view of the margin.
“I found Traxodent most helpful when I need to get an impression of a molar, where there is limited visualization, I can’t adequately access the distal portion of the preparation to pack retraction cord, and where the sulcus space is so narrow that not even the smallest retraction cord will fit,” Dr. Nakamura explained. “I’ve also found it helpful in cases in which a patient may have thin friable gingival tissues, such as the thin biotype, where the trauma of packing cord could potentially cause inadvertent recession over time due to trauma to the biologic width and gingival sulcular epithelium,” he added.
With its strong affinity to aqueous solutions, Traxodent rinses away easily and cleanly, without leaving a film, and won’t leave material behind that can interfere with downstream procedures such as bonding agents.
Ease of Use, Increased Patient Comfort
Dr. Nakamura said he routinely reaches for Traxodent and has essentially stopped using retraction cord, a decision largely based on Traxodent’s ease of use and increased patient comfort.
“Since it is a paste system, placing the material is much easier than placing retraction cord, and in cases where the teeth to be crowned have been root canal treated, no anesthesia is needed. With retraction cord, numbing the gingiva is often necessary in order to make packing cord tolerable for the patient,” he concluded.
