I ’ve been treating patients with pain associated with the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) for over 40 years. In addition, my practice also sees many people who suffer from bruxism that can be associated with sleep disorders. We see 6 to 7 new patients a day and several of these new patients present with TMJ and/or bruxism. Getting immediate chairside relief for these patients was challenging until I started using GrindRelief PRO.

Quick and Easy to Use

When a patient presents in acute pain, my normal routine would be to create a bruxism device. However, that solution requires impressions, models, and my lab to make the appliance, which means it’s taking at least an hour to go through that workflow. Typically, neither we nor the patient have that much time available, so the patient will often leave the office in pain until we can get it scheduled. Since GrindRelief PRO became an option, my patients are happy that I can give them something that they can take home.

The GrindRelief PRO is an FDA-cleared, patented thermoplastic medical device that is used to treat and mitigate the effects of nighttime bruxism. The fitting can be done quickly by myself or my assistant, so the patient can leave with it and start feeling relief that same night.

Addressing the Problem

The GrindRelief PRO features a Central Power Bar that makes it stronger and more stable in the mouth. Because our jaw muscles generate so many pounds of pressure, this bar is important in preventing bite through while also reducing harmful muscle activity. The bar creates pressure on the upper and lower midlines simultaneously. As the patient bites down, the device flexes like a butterfly with the principal contact being the midline of the upper and lower.
