OMNICHROMA FLOW

Single-shade flowable composite meets a wide range of restorative needs

In dentistry, time is money. Shaving just a few minutes off every appointment can add up quickly—allowing us to see more patients and do more dentistry. But when it comes to dental materials, the opposite is true. Case in point is the R&D team at Tokuyama, who spent over 20 years experimenting with structural color chemistry before launching OMNICHROMA and starting a single-shade revolution in the world of restorative dentistry.

At this point, I’ve had the opportunity to use virtually every single- and limited-shade product on the market. Although some are quite effective, I maintain confidence that OMNICHROMA products will match tooth shades as well as or better than any of the newer reduced-shade materials.

An Ongoing Restorative Revolution

This single-shade revolution has recently expanded to flowable composites with the addition of OMNICHROMA Flow, a one-shade flowable composite that, like its packable predecessor, esthetically matches every color of tooth from A1 to D4 with a single shade. It can easily be used in areas with minimal thickness holes and cracks, for porcelain and composite repairs, and it blends perfectly with color deviations in anterior teeth.

OMNICHROMA Flow has become my go-to material for repairing provisional restorations, and it's perfect for filling in voids from air bubbles at the incisal edge or gingival margin of the prep. Because it blends with virtually every shade of acrylic in a similar way as it does with tooth structure, our office cuts down on waste, potential cross-contamination of multiple shades, and the expense of stocking enough flowable shades to match every shade of temporary restoration.

Excellent Esthetics

This material is highly polishable and quite stain resistant, with minimal polymerization shrinkage and a compressive strength among the highest of available flowables. Plus, OMNICHROMA BLOCKER Flow is a game-changer that is very useful in masking stains and reconstructing highly opaque teeth. I recommend that dentists who are hesitant to give up their favorite composite consider purchasing OMNICHROMA BLOCKER and OMNICHROMA BLOCKER Flow to place over stained dentin or on anterior dentin areas prior to placing their material of choice.

Overall, OMNICHROMA Flow is a welcome addition to a “less is more” philosophy that has the potential to reduce expense and waste, while creating a superior shade match and excellent results.
