From the Podium: Dentrix Ascend
CLOUD-BASED PRACTICE MANAGEMENT SOFTWARE OFFERS EFFICIENCY, FLEXIBILITY, AND PROTECTION
Most practices express collective frustration knowing that so many people's lives could be improved if they'd simply take steps to effect change in their oral health. Similarly, Drs J. Elliott and Jonny Brennan, operators of Brennan Dental in Chandler, AZ, believe that dental practitioners should take steps to incorporate new technology and enjoy the fruits of improved functionality. The brother clinicains did just that when they began using Dentrix Ascend cloud-based dental management software from Henry Schein Practice Solutions.
As a scratch start-up by recently graduated dentists, we had lofty goals and very little in the way of resources. We knew we wanted to avoid inefficiency in all respects. We couldn’t afford to waste time with technology hiccups or struggle with analyzing critical key progress indicators for measuring our practice growth. We needed a solution that was intuitive, where new employees and temps could immediately use the interface to effectively treat patients. We found that Dentrix Ascend allowed us to avoid these pitfalls and, above all else, enabled us to be flexible. We could access our data anywhere on any device, giving us more tools to manage remotely and communicate between owners, associate doctors, other providers, and the office as a whole.
Simplicity is the main reason I suggest dentists should look into Dentrix Ascend. The cloud offers the advantages of a platform that can be device and OS agnostic, and reciprocated across many servers—effectively providing an always-backed-up, always on environment, and a pathway for continual, rapid advancement via ongoing updates. Dentrix Ascend is the best, most comprehensive cloud platform for achieving these goals. In fact, it takes it a step further by taking advantage of the online platform to provide built-in support for text/email notifications; artificial intelligence for financial, insurance, and clinical workflows; and integrated imaging.

Dentrix Ascend has saved us time and money, but it has also spared us from the immeasurable disaster that would have accompanied a data breach with our health records when our network became compromised by a virus in an attachment. Fortunately, there was no sensitive or important data saved on the office machines—all of our data is stored securely on Dentrix Ascend servers.
While we haven’t had any additional security issues, Windows recently released an update platform that really threw things sideways on a couple of our computers. However, since our practice management software is available on any computer that has an internet connection, it is extremely easy for us to sub a computer in and out during the maintenance and updating of other computers. Our prior frustrations with hardware maintenance are kept to a minimum with a cloud-based practice management solution.
Dentrix Ascend gives us time back to focus on the growth and management of our practice. We don’t waste time on server backups and the inefficiencies of only being able to access practice information on-site. We regularly run reports and manage the practice remotely. Without Ascend, we would not have been able to accomplish what we have at our practice. The systems are intuitive for training employees new to dental, and we have so much more time because of the improved efficiency. Our growth and success can be attributed, at least in part, to Dentrix Ascend.
