Find out why Mark Morin, DDS, believes that Grandio blocs:

• Provide patients with efficient, single-visit crown, onlay-type restorations
• Allow him to be more conservative with his preparation, enabling a longer-lasting, more durable restoration

from_the_podium-teeth.jpgToday’s patients are extremely tight on time and can appreciate the fact that I can finish a restoration in one visit. I am a chairside, single-visit kind of guy, and I’m always looking for a product that will allow me to respect my patients’ time and efficiency. Grandio blocs help me accomplish what I set out to do and the fundamentals I built my practice on, which is to provide my patients with the best possible care in the most efficient way possible.

More Conservative Restorations
With crown onlays, which I think are extremely destructive to the tooth, clinicians are removing enamel. The thickest and strongest part of the enamel is on the tooth’s tip, and dentists are shaving that down to place full crowns. I’m a conservative guy, and I want to save every piece of enamel that’s on that tooth, so I have to have a product that can bond to the enamel and give me the same strength as a crown would. Grandio blocs—when properly bonded to the enamel—allow me to save those enamel cusp tips and those small enamel walls so I can be more conservative. This enables me to put in a longer-lasting, more conservative, and durable restoration for the patient.

Strength and Durability
Strength and compatibility are the name of the game in CAD/CAM, but survivability is of equal importance. Survivability comes down to finding a product that can really mimic the natural ability of the tooth. The nanoceramic hybrid Grandio blocs, which have been found to be stronger than compositebased blocks, allow me to bond to the tooth and bring it back to its original strength. In other words, I’m able to bond these pieces of enamel back to the tooth in a really conservative approach for a lifelike, stronger, and more durable restoration.

A Win for Patient and Clinician
Grandio blocs compare very well to other products on the market—they wear well, they have natural esthetics, and when you combine them with VOCO’s adhesive materials, such as Futurabond U and Bifix QM, you have a conservative restoration with minimal postoperative sensitivity. Grandio blocs also mill more easily and create less wear on the milling equipment and burs than the other materials I’ve used.

And because Grandio blocs do not require firing, they allow me to efficiently provide the same-day restorations that my patients want. All in all, I think it’s a win for me and a win for the patient.
