One undeniable truth about human teeth and most restorative materials is that they expand when heated and contract when cooled. Because it isn’t likely that the human population will stop consuming hot food and drinks anytime soon, these restorations are under constant pressure of thermal expansion, and if they expand more than the tooth itself, they threaten the adhesive bond that lies between them.

But there’s hope in VOCO’s Grandio blocs, which, based on Nano-ceramic hybrid technology, provide a measure of elasticity similar to that of natural tooth structure.

Strong & Durable Restorations
Grandio blocs exhibit tooth-like physical properties that support high flexural strength and low abrasion. Because of this strength, combined with low water absorption and a high filler content of 86%, Grandio blocs also have strong wear resistance to retain their margins and effectively stand the test of time.

“The new Grandio blocs from VOCO provide durability and longevity in a biofriendly restoration not yet seen in a nano-ceramic hybrid material,” said Dr. Jack Griffin, who focuses on cosmetic dentistry in his St. Louis County, MO, practice.

Customized Esthetics
Grandio blocs are available in 2 sizes—for small restorations like inlays, or large restorations such as crowns—as well as high and low translucencies and 11 monolithic shades to ensure optimal esthetics. While chips in ceramic restorations often require extensive treatment, defects in nanoceramic hybrid restorations can be easily repaired intraorally by roughening the surface of the defect, applying an adhesive, and then correcting the damage with a composite restorative.

More Same-Day Dentistry
Grandio blocs allow clinicians to be more conservative because it’s possible to mill even thin, tapered edges without chipping. Because the nanoceramic hybrid block is completely polymerized and does not need to be fired, it can be placed immediately after milling—saving valuable time in the operatory and increasing same-day treatment.

The resulting crowns or implant-supported crowns, inlays, onlays, or veneers have surface hardness nearly identical to natural tooth structure, making them simple to polish both inside and outside the mouth.

“Without chipping, firing, or glazing, and with an elasticity that is closer to real tooth than ever before, Grandio blocs have a great future in chairside CAD/CAM dentistry,” said Dr. Griffin.
