Save Time with Tempit

One dentist shares why he’s stayed loyal to Centrix’s Tempit temporary filling and sealing material for over 25 years…and counting

Dr. Craig Aebli has used Tempit temporary filling and sealing material from Centrix since it was first released—about 25 years ago—and the reason he’s stayed loyal is simple: it works.

“For smaller areas and endo access openings, it works very well,” he said. “It’s really an ideal application.”

One of Centrix's many single-use product offerings, Tempit is delivered in prefi lled, unit-dose tips that allow the material to be injected directly into the prep to seal endo access openings or make short-term temporaries.

A Time-Saving Temporary Material

The moisture-activated Tempit offers convenience that other materials simply don’t, said Dr. Aebli, who remembers having to scoop other temp materials out of a jar with an instrument—a frustrating task. Tempit comes in small carpules, so there's no need for mixing or spatulation, or to worry about it hardening, which can make it diffi cult to work with.

“Other materials aren’t always consistent, but Tempit is,” he said. “It’s just so much easier to use. It fills in the space it needs to, and if it runs out, I just get another carpule. It’s always fresh, and it’s just so convenient to use.”

Tempit is easy to place and sets in 5 minutes or less, saving time during the procedure, and the application is straightforward. When Dr. Aebli is ready, his assistant hands him a carpule and a dispensing gun. Then, he puts the material in the tooth, packs it in, and then slides over it with a wet cotton tip to seal it onto the tooth. And that’s it—the patient is ready to go.

“At the end of a procedure you want to get things wrapped up quickly, and Tempit works well for that,” Dr. Aebli said. “It’s no-hassle. You don’t have to mix anything; it comes straight out of the carpule and it sets up on its own.”

There’s a Tempit for That

Tempit, which contains calcium sulfate and zinc oxide, expands slightly when set and seals out microleakage and bacterial ingress, another advantage. It’s also available in 3 other versions, including Tempit-E, which offers the added benefi t of eugenol.

Tempit-E is indicated for temporary fillings, especially in cases with reversible pulpal infl ammation. Its anti-inflammatory and local anesthetic effects help facilitate pulpal healing. It also can be used as a liner in deep preparations.

Overall, the Tempit products are reliable, with the original formulation serving as a workhorse for endo access openings and short-term temporaries in Dr. Aebli’s office for the majority of his career.

“I’ve stuck with it because I like it. It seals the tooth well for short-term cases and it’s convenient,” he said. “Tempit saves me time with every use, and I know I can depend on it.”
