With single-layer placement, dual-cure confidence, and easy handling, HyperFIL+ is a next-generation bulk-fill solution for a variety of clinical scenarios

When bulk-fill materials first debuted in dentistry, their goal was clear: to simplify restorative procedures. By enabling a greater depth of placement compared to traditional composites, bulk-fill materials help reduce chair time and minimize the risk of voids or bubbles caused by incremental layering. Now, Parkell’s launch of HyperFIL+ enhances this process even further by offering an even easier approach to bulk-fill procedures.

HyperFIL+ is a dual-cure bulk-fill composite that builds on the proven success of the original HyperFIL, trusted by clinicians for nearly a decade. Rather than starting from scratch, Parkell enhanced the formula with advanced technology and zirconia nanofillers, delivering a modern material tailored for today’s dental needs. HyperFIL+ excels in a variety of clinical applications, from large posterior restorations with deep proximal boxes to complex anterior cases.

The Perks of Being Single

Whether it’s an emergency or a routine dental procedure, choosing a material designed to meet the demands of modern dentistry can spell the difference between success or failure. One significant advantage of HyperFIL+ is its ability to be placed in a single layer. Dr. Michael Long, a general dentist in Auburn, WA, prefers single-layer placement when the situation calls for it, and said it’s especially beneficial when unexpected events occur. “When the appointment does not go as planned—such as when there’s extensive decay or unsupported cusps and time is short—a bulk-fill material like HyperFIL+ is great,” he said.

Similarly, Ohio dentist Dr. Robert Miller explained that “single-layer placement is better because one does not have to worry about bonding layers.” It also helps dental practices operate more efficiently while improving the patient experience. “HyperFIL+ allows a faster time for the procedure, so the patient does not have to be in the chair as long,” he added.

The Power of Dual-Cure

With dual-cure properties, HyperFIL+ combines the best of both worlds with the option of light-curing or self-curing—or a combination of both—to ensure complete polymerization. The self-curing properties promote controlled shrinkage and help protect against gap formation, microleakage, and postop sensitivity, while light-curing enhances surface hardness, strength, and polishability.

“Dual-cure is a huge benefit for curing when there is a deep box, during post placement, or in an area where a light cannot reach,” noted Dr. Miller, who found HyperFIL+ especially beneficial in a core buildup case with a large MODB filling and MB cusp replacement. When using HyperFIL+ on crown buildups with immediate prepping of the tooth, Dr. Long enjoyed the “quick placement of HyperFIL+ with the security of knowing the material has fully cured.”

Handles Like a Champ

When using HyperFIL+ for core buildups or large posterior fillings, Dr. Miller said, “The material handles very nicely with a very nice flow, while also holding [its position] without slumping.” He added, “It seems to stack very well without incorporating air pockets and is easy to adjust.”

Appreciating the material’s  ease of placement and esthetics, Dr. Long shared, “HyperFIL+ goes into place and can be carved back quickly to provide a fairly esthetic foundation for a later crown.” Although he only used HyperFIL+ for core buildups, Dr. Long said he “likes the shade of it,” making it suitable “for a restoration other than a deep buildup.” He also noted, “The ability to adjust and contour with polishability was very good.”

Acknowledging that more time is needed to fully evaluate the material’s long-term durability and esthetics, Dr. Long looks forward to seeing how HyperFIL+ holds up in the future. With both high compressive and flexural strength, HyperFIL+ is a durable bulk-fill option that’s compatible with many dual-cure adhesive systems.
