Transform Your Practice, Improve Your Financial Future
A 2-day interactive learning experience, the Dental Whale Business Immersion Summit puts the greatest minds in dental practice management under one roof to help practices grow and scale their businesses
Between webinars, study clubs, and live in-person events, there is no shortage of ways to pursue clinical education in dentistry. But when it comes to learning more about the business side of dentistry—for example, how to market your practice or train your office manager—the path forward narrows. What if there was a way to chop up all the pieces of practice management you’ve been curious about, throw them in a pot, and then hit them with an immersion blender?
Enter the Dental Whale Business Immersion Summit, a 2-day event designed to help you grow and scale your dental practice through wealth-building and practice improvement techniques. This year’s summit, which took place from September 23---24 at the Aria Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, featured over 60 exhibitor booths, more than 35 live continuing education courses, and discussions led by dentistry’s leading experts. The summit is structured into learning tracks for both dentists and team members, with each session designed to break down the nitty-gritty details of various business systems.
“This was my first time attending the Dental Whale Business Immersion Summit,” said Carrie Pumphrey, DDS, coowner of Blue River Dental in Shelbyville, IN. “My partner and I came to the summit together to have some one-on-one time to focus on our business. It’s hard to consistently make time for that, especially in the busyness of life. We also wanted to learn from industry experts about how to best grow our practice.”
Diving into the Business of Dentistry One of Dr. Pumphrey’s favorite takeaways from the event was listening to keynote speaker Darren Hardy, a success mentor and motivational speaker who shared key strategies for becoming successful dental entrepreneurs. “We enjoyed Darren Hardy’s sessions and his theme about the impact that small, consistent actions can make over time,” said Dr. Pumphrey. “We also attended several of Dr. Scott Leune’s workshops. His insights are always valuable, but we particularly enjoyed the workshop about gaining new opportunities through practice mergers.”
A co-founder of Dental Whale, Dr. Leune is the founder of Breakaway Seminars, the highest value seminar experience in dentistry and part of Dental Whale’s growing learning platform. Its flagship course, the Business Masters Seminar, covers hundreds of innovative business systems and management principles that inspire doctors to take their careers and practices to the next level.
“It’s important for me and my partner to understand the business of dentistry so we can ensure that our practice is performing optimally,” noted Dr. Pumphrey.
Also part of Dental Whale’s learning platform is Front Office Rocks, an online training resource led by former dental office manager Laura Nelson that uses position-specific learning tracks to improve practices’ day-to-day operations and create the ultimate customer service experience. Nelson led 3 discussions at the Business Immersion Summit, covering topics like hiring new employees, office culture, maximizing the schedule, and optimizing productivity.
Similarly, Dr. Pumphrey and her partner understand the importance of getting the whole dental team on board. “We have recently focused much more on culture and developing our team’s leadership skills so they can participate in growing the business with us,” she said. “Setting clear expectations around our practice vision has made a huge difference. We are seeing consistent growth and have a happier, more engaged team.”
Solutions That Cover Every Base
In addition to continuing education, Dental Whale offers solutions to over 19,000 dental practices across the United States in 3 other areas: supplies, equipment & technology, and repair.
“It's very exciting because we're on the forefront of the latest and greatest technology—from scanners and caries diagnosis to 3D technology—even artificial intelligence, which our team has been able to beta-test at its earliest stages,” said Dr. Steven Wingfield, co-founder of Dental Whale, during the summit. “We've also seen prices for supplies and labs creep up, but we've been able to control that by working with vendors to keep costs down and supplies coming in.”
Dental Whale’s goal is to cast a wide net for its members so that they have great manufacturers to work with and, more importantly, get discounts on products by being a Dental Whale member. From small and large equipment to supplies and labs, Dental Whale leverages the buying power of thousands of dental practices—all with the click of a button. Practices can log into the My Dental Whale platform 24/7 to buy and save on supplies and equipment, schedule repairs, and sign up for continuing education.
“We are brand-new Dental Whale members," said Dr. Pumphrey, "So, we’re just learning about the services offered and we're looking forward to seeing the positive impact they will have on our practice."
