A minimally invasive laser procedure transformed how a New Hampshire periodontist treated failing implants while maintaining soft-tissue esthetics
Dr. Saltz graduated from the 6-year accelerated dental program at Case Western Reserve University and went on to graduate from the University of Kentucky Postdoctoral Periodontology & Implant Dentistry program in 1991. He specializes in periodontics, microsurgery, laser and implant dentistry, and oral medicine, with an emphasis on comprehensive full-mouth oral rehabilitation. Dr. Saltz has lectured nationally and internationally on topics including osseous grafts, crown lengthening and root reshaping, soft tissue plastic surgery, esthetic enhancement, sinus and ridge augmentation, dental implants, CT scans, and 3D imaging and has been a guest lecturer at many dental schools and postdoctoral programs. He practiced at Coastal Periodontics in Portsmouth, NH, with his partner, Dr. Kate Wilson
Over his 3-decade-long career, Jeffrey Saltz, DDS, treated hundreds of implant complications. Here, he explains how the PerioLase MVP-7 laser replaced the unpredictability of guided tissue regeneration—and gave him a reliable way to detoxify implants and regenerate the bone and tissue that periodontitis destroys.

A 'Game Changer' for Peri-Implantitis
PerioLase is the only device that disinfects the pocket and implant 100% of the time. A scalpel can't reach what it can't see—the pathogens driving the disease are invisible to it—but the laser energy penetrates up to 6 mm into the soft tissue and kills those pathogens. The physics of the laser allowed me to detoxify the implant, eliminate infl ammation and infection, and regenerate bone.
The LAPIP protocol is a game changer in our battle against peri-implantitis. At 1 week post-op, patient results were dramatic compared to traditional surgery. At 6 months to a year, we saw bone regeneration around implants. LAPIP has completely changed how we salvage ailing implants.
