Why I Use… TheraCem

Cementation is a necessary restorative step that dentists need to complete with efficiency and predictability. With BISCO’s TheraCem, Dr. George D. Reskakis has found a cement that is easy to use, handles well, and makes cleanup a breeze. Find out why he calls TheraCem a home run when it comes to providing durable and reliable cementation of his patients’ indirect restorations.
Cementation is the step that most clinicians tend to mail in. We spend hours preparing and impressing, taking time to ensure a perfect fit—yet when it comes to cementation, little thought is given. The criteria that I look for in a cement are predictability and ease of use, as well as retention, control, and esthetics. BISCO’s TheraCem checks all of these boxes.

I recently had an implant case where the patient required long-term provisional crowns during the wait for integration. I used TheraCem to cement the crowns on very short teeth, which were ultimately going to be removed. It performed like a champion, and the patient returned 4 months later without losing the crowns. I was then able to place the temporary abutments and alter the provisional on the same day the teeth were removed.

I have had remarkably good results with BISCO products, starting with their original bonding agents, and I trust their 3 decades of research. TheraCem is no different. It’s a dual-cured, calciumand fluoride-releasing, self-adhesive resin cement with a high radiopacity. It creates a strong bond to zirconia and most substrates—such as my patients’ crowns—without the need for priming or etching. In my hands, the viscosity is just right, allowing restorations to seat as they should. I also like having the ability to spot cure and peel, which saves me valuable time at cleanup.

One thing I do not want to struggle with during restorations is removing cement interproximally. There is nothing more aggravating than having to spend 15 minutes trying to clean up after cementation. TheraCem is specially formulated for a quick and easy cleanup, and allows me to clear patients’ interproximals without difficulty.

All in all, having used most of the other products in this class, I believe TheraCem is the front-runner. And the fact that it’s retentive, esthetic, and easy to use and clean up makes it a home run.
