Why i Use... DesensiMAX
Powerful desensitizer can be used in direct and indirect restorative procedures to offer sensitivity relief, disinfect the tooth surface before bonding, and prevent bond degradation
Having a product that you can depend on to address patients’ sensitivity issues is a definite plus. But having a product that provides consistent results, while also protecting the long-term integrity of the bonding system? Even better. Here, Dr. Troy Schmedding discusses why he uses Vista Apex's DesensiMAX, a powerful desensitizer that prevents bond degradation, rewets the tooth surface before bonding, and optimizes the restorative-tooth interface.
Troy A. Schmedding, DDS
Dr. Schmedding has been a practicing cosmetic and restorative dentist for the past 20 years. He graduated in 1993 with honors from The University of the Pacific, Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry. He currently maintains a private practice in Walnut Creek, CA. Dr. Schmedding is one of approximately 450 dentists internationally to achieve Accreditation status in the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry. He works with numerous manufacturers on implementation and testing of various restorative products being brought to market. He speaks and teaches nationally on both esthetic and restorative dentistry.
I’m always on the lookout for products or techniques that can help improve clinical outcomes, so I felt it was very prudent to give a new desensitizing formulation from Vista Apex a try—not only for me, but for my patients. What I discovered is that DesensiMAX belongs under every restoration that you place. It is such an easy product to incorporate into bonding protocols to enhance your restorative outcomes.
DesensiMAX has been formulated to be used with total-etch and selective-etch adhesive systems, and it is very unique because it can be used in direct or indirect restorative cases—regardless of the bonding protocol being used. Of course, it also can be used as a straight desensitizer for a hypersensitive tooth. The material is easily applied with no drying, rinsing, or scrubbing required. Bonding protocols often call for a moist, shiny, or damp surface for bonding, so DesensiMAX eliminates the guesswork by rewetting to the proper level.
Longer-Lasting Restorations
DesensiMAX contains powerful disinfecting components to prevent bacteria from causing secondary decay. Incorporating both glutaraldehyde and chlorhexidine in the same formulation is very unique. This proven combination provides very powerful antimicrobial properties, as well as a matrix metallopeptidase (MMP) inhibitor, which prevents bond degradation for greater longevity of the restoration.
Sometimes, no news is good news. When I don’t hear back from my patients after performing a restorative procedure that can elicit sensitivity, I consider it a positive patient experience. I can very happily confirm that this has been the case with DesensiMAX, because I have not heard back from any of them!
