Why I Use... Tray Aways and Supergel

Premium blended alginate material and disposable impression trays maximize patient comfort while creating dimensionally stable impressions with zero distortion or bite through

Using products that make patients happier and life easier for the dental team is a win-win for any practice. For Dr. Sean Grady and his team, switching to Keystone’s Tray Aways disposable impression trays and Supergel blended alginate impression material was a victory on both fronts. Now, there are fewer negative reactions from patients during the impression-taking process, and the Grady Dental team has virtually eliminated retakes.

Keystone Tray Aways and Supergel My dental team takes at least a dozen impressions every day, and it’s not uncommon for patients to react negatively to the process. Often, this leads to distortions in the impressions that require multiple retakes. Several months ago, our supply representative recommended we try Keystone’s Tray Aways, which are disposable impression trays, and Supergel, a blended alginate impression material. This system was better than I had expected and the impressions were much more reliable. We now use these products daily when an impression is needed.

Although Tray Aways and Supergel can be used separately, I’ve achieved the best results when using them together. Made from rigid, high-impact styrene, Tray Aways are designed with smooth, rounded edges that do not dig in to soft tissues. While the trays extend far enough to capture all the necessary anatomy, they are more comfortable for patients than previous trays I’ve used. In addition to the comfort factor, the trays have interior retention slots and vertical perforation to ensure the Supergel inside stays put.

Since switching to Tray Aways and Supergel, retakes are minimal in the practice. I think the comfortable design of the tray in particular helps with mandibular impressions, and the rapid-setting Supergel leaves far less room for errors. I’m glad we added these products to our armamentarium.
