Featuring 4 vision modes and 5 focal views, the ACTEON C50 Full HD intraoral camera provides clear, crisp images that can help boost case acceptance
When Dr. Kevin Nail was first introduced to the C50 Full HD intraoral camera from ACTEON, he was impressed with the high quality and clarity of the images it provided. It was a huge upgrade from the camera he was using at the time, and he knew it would allow him to better present treatment needs to his patients. He decided to make the switch, and said it’s been well worth the initial investment.
One of the biggest benefits, Dr. Nail said, has been the increase in case acceptance.
“More patients accept treatment because they can clearly see what they need done and why. I wasn’t getting that with other brand cameras I've used in the past,” he said. “They can now see the problem without me having to explain why they need treatment. With this camera, there’s no doubt what they’re looking at.”
Not only does the camera provide crisp, clear images, it also offers 4 vision modes: Daylight, Daylight+, Perio, and Caries. In the caries setting, cavities glow orange, while perio mode highlights tarter and inflammation so patients can clearly see why the hygienist is recommending a deep cleaning. Dr. Nail can capture 5 focal views—macro, intraoral, tooth, smile, and portrait—in each vision mode.
This powerful case acceptance driver also helps with insurance claims, reducing denials. “It’s especially good for perio because you can submit images that highlight tarter and inflammation. That’s normally hard to translate,” Dr. Nail said. “The same with cavities. I can turn caries mode on and highlight where the cavities are, giving the insurance company obvious evidence.”
Ergonomic, Durable, and Designed for Daily Use
Dr. Nail, who owns a tech-forward family and cosmetic dentistry practice in Houston, TX, describes the C50 as user-friendly. He can cycle through different settings in a matter of seconds, and easily zoom in and out. He also likes the fact the camera has 2 separate buttons for image capture, one on the bottom and one on the top.
“It makes the ergonomics of taking images easier,” he said. “All of the other cameras I’ve used had one button in an awkward spot that’s hard to reach. This is more comfortable; you have a choice of what’s easier for you to click on when taking images.”
Another differentiator is the C50’s durability. While he hasn’t tested the theory out, he said he “feels like he could drop and bang it around without it breaking.” Other cameras he’s used—not so much.
A Smart Investment in Visual Diagnostics
While the C50 is more expensive than other cameras Dr. Nail has used previously, his investment has paid off in improved treatment acceptance and fewer denied insurance claims. It’s also more durable, comfortable to use, and easy to integrate.
“I didn’t have to change anything in my workflow,” he said. “It was plug and play. All you have to do is set it up, plug it in, and it’s ready to go!"
