Repairing White Lines with Interface

Along with preparing ceramics, enamel, and dentin in one application, eliminating hydrofluoric acid, and offering a 3-year shelf life, Interface can also repair the “white lines” that sometimes form along the enamel margins of restorations, especially in posterior regions. Enamel “takes a beating” occlusally and/or lingually in some patients, which makes it more friable and more susceptible to damage caused by polymerization contraction. Staining along these margins indicates that substances have permeated the interface between the restoration and the tooth, which of course can result in secondary decay.

Dr. John Kanca recommends that rather than attempting to “ditch out” the margin, re-bond, and replace the composite, or just apply resin adhesive to the area, there is a more effective way to restore the margins with a combination of Interface and Surpass 3 from Vista Apex. After isolating the tooth, mix a drop each of Interface A&B and rub it into the white lines until they disappear. This will take about 30 seconds. After drying the area thoroughly, apply Surpass 3, and air thin it. Then light activate each surface for 10 seconds. If any kind of opening is large enough to be discernable within the defect, rub a flowable resin composite into it with a micro-applicator, then air thin and light cure.

Interface is effective in delivering or repairing in vivo any clinical situation involving ceramic restorations:

  • • All-porcelain repairs
  • • Ceramic/enamel repairs
  • • Ceramic/enamel/dentin repairs
  • • CEREC cementation
