Seeing Through it all with the Microlux 2 Transilluminator

I have been studying up on the Microlux 2 Transilluminator from AdDent, and I want one! It’s simple to use, and it has many uses. You can see the shadows of hidden caries lurking between teeth or under old restorations. You can explore how deeply visible caries go into the enamel, and whether they have edged into the dentin. Or find calculus, which appears in dark contrast to transilluminated enamel and dentin in the cervical region. Talk about taking some of the mystery out of dental diagnosis.

Then there are its other uses: visualizing crown fractures; visualizing root canal orifices and root fractures; locating lost instruments in root canals; oral cancer screening. Either as a stand-alone or by using one of the Microlux 2 accessories, the Transilluminator has enormous potential as an indispensible tool in general dental, prosthodontic, endodontic, periodontic, pedodontic, dental hygiene, oral surgery, and orthodontic diagnosis and treatment planning.

The Microlux 2 gives you more information than an x-ray, and it reduces patient’s exposure to radiation while allowing for more frequent observation of the closest kind.

Available with either a 2- or 3-mm light guide and battery powdered, so it is portable and easy to use. The light guides are autoclaveable, but protective sleeves are available, too. The base is also designed to be autoclaved.

Additional benefits are being able to monitor the progression of carious lesions without taking multiple x-rays, using it as an auxiliary light source when doing the close work often required for operative procedures and preventive dentistry, and demonstrating calculus to hygiene patients.
