This light-cured nano-ORMOCER is an all ceramic-based direct flowable restorative material with high biocompatibility
According to Dr. Robert Gurmankin, flowable composites are often too runny or they contain air bubbles. He found this was not the case when trying VOCO’s Admira Fusion Flow for this Dental Product Shopper evaluation. Dr. Gurmankin was pleased that the material “flowed slightly to fill the space, but wasn’t runny.” And, he added, “By not retracting the material, no bubbles were introduced,” which allowed him to create consistent high-quality restorations.

Dispensing and Placement
VOCO’s patented nonrunning and nondripping NDT syringe is designed for reliable and precise application, while reducing wasted material. The delivery syringe was Dr. Tony Wu’s favorite feature of Admira Fusion Flow, describing it as excellent with no need to pull back. Dr. Gurmankin said the material flows but stays where it is placed, minimizing the need for trimming. One of the evaluators, Dr. Kent Caserta, felt the tips were a bit narrow for ease of dispensing the material at times, and another would like to see the material supplied in compules in addition to the 2 g syringes.
“We all liked Admira Fusion Flow,” shared Dr. William Davidson, who said he and his staff were impressed from the first day they used it. Describing a patient with a very deep interproximal restoration where band placement would normally be impossible, Dr. Davidson found that this ceramic-based flowable was perfect for that case. He was able to fill in the depth of the pocket freehand until he could place a band. He added, “Talk about making a good impression!”
Flowability, Viscosity, and Handling
VOCO says this thixotropic material will flow on demand without slumping and described its unique handling properties as “smart” handling. The material flows when under pressure and adapts well to cavity walls but retains its shape and remains in place as required for light-curing.
Acknowledging that sometimes a flowable resin is too runny or too thick, Dr. Wu said Admira Fusion Flow’s consistency was perfect, which made him feel confident going into a procedure. Dr. Davidson agreed and praised the material’s even consistency and great handling, and said it improved his workflow. Dr. David Ventker said he was able to use Admira Fusion Flow in many clinical situations—under packable composites, as a sandwich restoration, for small repairs to anterior teeth, and for luting several anterior veneers. One dentist said the material was a bit too flowable, and another would like to see less viscosity to make it more stackable. The viscosity was Dr. Kayvon Nezhad’s favorite feature, and he shared, “It is more viscous than most flowables, which gives ample time for manipulation and adaptability.”
Polishing and Esthetics
This material is easy to polish to a high shine luster and has a high-grade surface hardness, according to VOCO. “The final product looked and polished extremely well,” shared Dr. Philip Aurbach, and Dr. Gurmankin said it reduced his finishing time. While repairing a denture tooth in a temporary partial, Dr. Robert Miller said Admira Fusion Flow flowed perfectly around the gingiva, and he was then able to repair the incisal edge.
Admira Fusion Flow is available in 12 shades—A1, A2, A3, A3.5, A4, B1, B2, C2, incisal, BL, OA2, and WO. The color and finish were Dr. Joseph O’Leary’s favorite features, and many liked the great variety of shades. Dr. Wu said he especially liked the opaque and incisal shades, which make anterior restorations easier. Dr. Aurbach would like to see a pink shade for creating restorations in the gingival area, but said the esthetics were good and “did not disappoint.” In a patient with a chipped No. 8, he was able to use the correct shade along with the incisal shade to create a nice esthetic outcome. This patient “was extremely pleased with the result,” Dr. Aurbach reported. “The best aspect of this material was the esthetics,” said Dr. Miller, who added, “After placement, it was difficult to distinguish the restoration. A Class V on facial No. 6 came out gorgeous.”
Overall Satisfaction
Dr. Gurmankin summed up his overall satisfaction with Admira Fusion Flow by saying, “[It’s the] best flowable I’ve ever used.” Dr. Nezhad, who hopes to incorporate it into “almost every restorative case,” concluded, “[I] love the hardness, love the viscosity after it was dispensed, and love the shade adaptability of this product.”
