GrandioSO Heavy Flow Flowable Universal Nano-Hybrid Restorative
VOCO
VOCO's GrandioSO Heavy Flow is characterized by its increased filler content and stability.
VOCO's GrandioSO Heavy Flow is a flowable universal nano-hybrid restorative indicated for all classes of restorations. VOCO describes GrandioSO Heavy Flow as having high filler content with low shrinkage that wears like a hybrid. According to the manufacturer, GrandioSO Heavy Flow is ideal for proximal and cervical areas as well as for use with the GrandTEC glass fiber system.
Eleven evaluators with a combined 229 years of experience participated in Dental Product Shopper's evaluation of GrandioSO Heavy Flow. Evaluators rated several features, including ease of use, overall handling, viscosity and stackability, and overall satisfaction with the product.
Ease of Use
According to the manufacturer, GrandioSO Heavy Flow is easy to apply, but also has the physical properties that were previously available only in packable composites. GrandioSO Heavy Flow can be used without restriction for all classes of cavities, even those bearing masticatory loads.
GrandioSO Heavy Flow's ease of use was wellreceived by evaluators; 3 rated it as excellent, 7 rated it as very good, and 1 rated it as good. An evaluator from Philadelphia, PA, with 13 years of experience said, "[GrandioSO Heavy Flow was] easy to use [and I] liked the delivery system."
Another evaluator with 30 years of experience agreed: "The product is also very versatile. I used it for small composite restorations, bonding on clear orthodontic brackets, sealants, marginal sealing for ceramic restorations, repairs to porcelain crowns, and repairs/additions to bisacrylic temporaries."
Overall Handling
VOCO states that GrandioSO Heavy Flow's high stability makes it effective for undercut cavities, restorations close to the marginal border, and proximal defects. GrandioSO Heavy Flow can be applied precisely and without overflow, saving time in applying the material.
When the 11 evaluators were asked to rate overall handling, 4 rated it excellent, 5 rated it very good, and 2 rated it good. A dentist who practices in Elk Grove, CA, said, "[GrandioSO Heavy Flow is] very easy handling. [It] flowed, yet stayed." When asked if he would recommend GrandioSO Heavy Flow to colleagues or contacts within the dental profession, this evaluator answered "definitely."
When asked what he would like to see improved about the product, an evaluator from Raleigh, NC, said, "I would like it to flow a bit more readily and have a lower surface tension for marginal adaptability." This same evaluator went on to say he would "definitely" purchase GrandioSO Heavy Flow in the future.
Visocosity/Stackability
VOCO describes GrandioSO Heavy Flow as a highly viscous fl owable universal nano-hybrid restorative material that provides simplified filling of undercuts, approximal boxes, and paragingival areas.
When asked to rate viscosity/stackability, 6 evaluators rated GrandioSO Heavy Flow as excellent, 4 rated it as very good, and 1 rated it as good. A clinician from Philadelphia, PA, said, "I liked that it wasn't runny; very helpful when doing class V composites, so material doesn't get excess past finish line at gingival." Another clinician, with 13 of experience, said, "The viscosity allowed the composite to be placed were it is desired and not slump out of the preparation prior to being light cured."
Overall Satisfaction
When the evaluators were asked if they would recommend GrandioSO Heavy Flow to their colleagues, 10 said they definitely or probably would. Eight said they definitely or probably would purchase GrandioSO Heavy Flow in the future.
Evaluators were asked to rate their overall satisfaction with GrandioSO Heavy Flow. Four evaluators rated it as excellent, 6 rated it as very good, and 1 rated it as good. In summarizing his evaluation, an evaluator with 30 years of experience said, "The product gives us more versatility and I will use it more with pediatric cases." Another evaluator added, "This was the best (flowable resin) I have used as to handling."
