Dentists have long faced the challenge of achieving a complete cure in deep, hard-to-reach restorations. This very obstacle is what drove Dr. Nicholas Nicosia, the 2nd-generation owner of Nicosia Dental in Rochester, NY, to seek out a material that could perform reliably when placing very deep restorations.
While reviewing Parkell’s HyperFIL+ dual-cure bulk-fill resin composite for DPS, Dr. Nicosia found his solution. The next-generation restorative material can be placed to any depth without compromising strength or esthetics, ensuring complete polymerization regardless of its distance from the curing light.
“I found this product to be quite versatile in various restorative situations. It was not only incredibly easy to use, but it also adapted well to preparations, there were zero complaints of postoperative sensitivity, and I could be assured of a full set,” Dr. Nicosia said. “I’m going to continue to use this product in my practice.”
Ease of Placement and Dispensing
Available in both a 2.5-mL hand-dispensed syringe and a 10-mL gun-dispensed cartridge, HyperFIL+ can be placed in a single layer, ultimately saving chair time and improving practice efficiency. It also is compatible with all Parkell bonding agents and many other adhesive systems.
Dr. Allan Mohr was looking for a material with better handling properties, and following his HyperFIL+ review, he found that his “problem was solved, as it has the ideal viscosity for my usage.”
“I loved how it adapted to the margins but was still stackable and not too runny,” Dr. Ryan Saunders said. Dr. Justin Milo appreciated its “easy handling and nice curing,” Dr. Kathy Mortazavi especially liked the dispensing tip, and Dr. Robert Wilkin said, “I like the color, consistency, and flow.” He also suggested additional delivery options for the material such as longer, thinner tips.
Previously struggling with a more time-consuming material, Dr. Julien Zenker praised HyperFIL+ for its ease of placement and time efficiency, adding that it was “much faster to apply and finish.”
Achieving a Complete Cure
Thanks to its dual-cure flexibility, HyperFIL+ ensures complete polymerization, even in the most challenging clinical cases. The material reduces shrinkage stress, improves adaptation to cavity walls, enhances the marginal seal, and increases protection against microleakage and postoperative sensitivity.
“I was looking for a product to use for kids that did not need to be placed and cured by increments,” Dr. Mortazavi explained. “Since HyperFIL+ is dual-cure, I could place it in bulk.” Dr. Hatem Abdelhadi noted the dual-cure feature helped “make sure the composite is cured on the floor of the restoration.”
In the past, Dr. Saunders found himself “slowly adding layers of resin and wondering if the lower layers were cured all the way,” but he reported that HyperFIL+ allowed him to “fill deep Class II composites and perform endo access and core buildups with ease and confidence that the lower layers were completely cured.”
Dr. Mercedes Del Valle was specifically seeking a product that could achieve “full curing in very deep areas,” and she discovered that HyperFIL+ “did wonderfully.” Dr. Nicosia said, “It was easy to use, and I was assured of a complete cure,” and Dr. Philip Aurbach agreed, saying, “I liked the dual-cure component for peace of mind.”
Improved Treatment Outcomes
HyperFIL+ can be used successfully across various clinical scenarios—from a large posterior restoration with a deep proximal box to a complex anterior case. The material is highly polishable and radiopaque, and its zirconia nanofillers offer exceptional strength, wear resistance, and esthetics.
“I used it on multiple posterior restorations, and they were all successful so far with no postop issues and look good,” Dr. Aurbach recalled. Another evaluator “used it in 3 large cavity preps” and found it “worked well.”
Dr. Joseph DeLapa said the product assisted with core buildups, Dr. Frank Berman said it was excellent for post and core procedures, and Dr. Abdelhadi said he would recommend HyperFIL+ for Class I fillings, as well as core buildups.
For a case involving a nervous patient, 1 dentist found HyperFIL+ helpful for filling the tooth, also appreciating the self-cure after light-curing the material.
“I used this product to restore the buccal of tooth No. 17 with poor accessibility,” Dr. Mortazavi said. “It’s very easy to use, and it’s convenient for both pediatric and geriatric patients by reducing procedure time.”
Overall Satisfaction
All dentists who evaluated HyperFIL+ for DPS indicated they would recommend the product to their peers.
“This is another example of Parkell’s excellent array of products!” Dr. Berman remarked, and Dr. Mohr said, “At this point, I’m satisfied with it.”
“I liked the product,” Dr. Aurbach said. “It performed well and fit into my routine without any disruption or learning curve.” Dr. Del Valle also praised HyperFIL+ for its “ease of use,” and overall, she called it a “good product” and highlighted her “good experience” using it.
