MiraTray Implant Advanced Evaluation
With its patented foil technology, a high-precision implant impression tray can be easily created in seconds
When creating an open tray impression for implant cases, dentists normally have two choices in trays—create a custom tray or modify a stock tray. Neither option is ideal. Creating a custom tray means waiting for a lab and adding an extra patient visit. Modifying an existing tray is a time-consuming and messy task, often with unreliable results. Hager’s unique Miratray Implant Advanced implant impression tray with patented foil technology is meant to simplify the open tray implant impression technique and allows dentists to keep a tray in stock for quick and accurate impression taking.
Because of the unique clear foil, which is a pierceable membrane bottom to the tray, Dr. Nathan Vassiliades said, “The trays perforate where the impression coping is, so it takes the time and guess work out of adjusting trays.” He added, “The film was strong and only perforated where it was needed and did not tear.” For dentists who previously dreaded or even avoided the open tray technique, Miratray allows them “to take open tray implant impressions with minimal hassle and no tray modification,” shared Dr. Varo Boyer, who said the trays are easy to use, less messy, and faster than other trays.
Time Savings & Ease of Use
Modifying stock trays for implant impressions is time consuming, said Dr. Boyer, but the foil bottom of Miratray allows him to customize the trays without the extra time, hassle and mess. Because no lab work and no modifications are necessary, Dr. Stephen Glick said his chairside experience was faster and more efficient. Dr. Timothy Kosinski said Miratray completely eliminated the need for a custom tray or making access holes in a stock tray. He now uses Miratray for all open tray implant impressions.
For Dr. Nicholas Nicosia, the Miratray worked so well that he “no longer dreads seating the impression tray for multiple implants in an open tray technique. It saved me time as well as a few headaches.” Because he did not have to guess at the location of the abutment extension, cut a plastic tray, or create a custom tray, Dr. Lance Timmerman reported that his appointment times were shorter.
Another significant feature is that the tray keeps impression material from overflowing, which saves valuable cleanup time. Calling them “clean and neat and easy to use,” Dr. Bilyana Tesic said using Miratray is “not as messy as having to make your own custom trays or dealing with overflow of impression material.” In a patient with a small mouth and gag reflex, Dr. Boyer noted, “The clear film allowed me to use a smaller amount of impression material and did notproduce a lot of excess that went to the back of the throat or created a mess.”

Durability, Foil Technology, & Impression Accuracy
The bottom of each tray is constructed of a unique foil technology that can be punctured when necessary but remains very durable in other areas. “I like the solid feel of the tray,” noted Dr. Robert Beatty, who said the plastic film was strong and maintained a nice adaptation when pierced by impression posts. “The material was durable and patients did not complain about it sticking or hurting them,” shared Dr. Melissa Taylor Burton, who said the trays resulted in consistently good impressions.
The clear film improves visualization of the treatment area, according to Dr. Beatty, who said, “The plastic film allowed easy sight and punch-through of impression posts.” Dr. Rick Pyun’s favorite feature was the invisibility of the tray material, which made it easier for him to visualize access and make sure the impression was voidless. For Dr. Tesic, the trays “allow for less chairtime without sacrificing impression accuracy. It makes your life easier.”
Variety of Sizes
Available in 3 sizes each for the maxilla and mandible (small, medium, large), Miratray is compatible with all implant systems. “I found the standardized sizes adequate for my cases,” said Dr. Tesic, while Dr. Boyer “would love to see even more variety in sizes, maybe 5 sizes for each arch.” When asked to recommend an improvement to the trays, Dr. Glick suggested adding one or two more retention holes for the impression material to hold onto the tray.

Overall Satisfaction
Calling it a very user-friendly system, Dr. Burton said she would highly recommend Miratray to her peers. A few dentists expressed surprise that this product wasn’t developed sooner. “It’s so incredibly simple that I’m surprised it took this long to be created,” noted Dr. Timmerman, who added, “If [dentists] do open tray impressions, they MUST use this product.”
