NSK: An Ergonomic Approach to Electric Handpieces

NSK infuses infection prevention and an ergonomic design into its DPS Best Product

When considering the switch from an air-driven to an electric handpiece, weighing nlz electric micromotor systemthe pros and cons includes, quite literally, the question of weight: will higher torque and less noise outweigh the potential hand fatigue from using a heavier handpiece?

When it comes to powerhouse handpiece manufacturer NSK, there’s no need to compromise. Case in point is the compact NLZ electric micromotor system, which converts any air-driven handpiece to electric, allowing for the optimal mix of power and ergonomics. Used in tandem with NSK’s standard length contra-angle, the Ti-Max Z95L handpiece, it offers a lightweight system with ideal balance and less fatigue.

“The ergonomics lent itself well to reduction of hand fatigue throughout the day,” said Dr. Joshua Haremza during his DPS product review of the NLZ and Ti-Max Z95L, adding that the small size of the handpiece came in handy when treating patients with limited openings. “I don’t think you could go wrong purchasing this unit.” Several other evaluators agreed, including Dr. Stephen Gordon, who shared, “This unit is small, lightweight, well balanced, and powerful.”The Z95L recently became equipped with a first-of-its-kind spray switch that allows clinicians to instantly toggle between Water Spray or Jet Spray functions, reducing water aerosols by up to 50%.

Even More Ergonomics

NSK’s attention to ergonomics was taken a step further with the launch of its nano series electric attachment, designed to be 10% smaller and lighter than conventional handpieces. Put to the test by a team of female clinicians, it earned a near-perfect score for its small size, ideal balance, and reduced hand fatigue.

“The nano series is an investment in your long-term health,” said Arizona clinician Dr. Joyce Bassett. “It’s so much easier to cut restorations off without causing damage to the underlying tooth structure.

”Dr. Grace Chu, who maintains an endodontic specialty office in Dallas, TX, found the nano95LS handpiece ideal for cutting through posterior zirconia crowns in patients with limited openings. “It has enough torque for me to put pressure on the handpiece while drilling without stalling, as well as adequate torque to drill through tough zirconia crowns,” she shared.

Built-In Safety

In addition to ergonomics, all NSK handpieces are infused with DualDefense infection prevention technology that helps protect patients from exposure to harmful contaminants. A Clean Head System prevents oral fluids and contaminants from entering the handpiece head and exhaust line, while an Anti-Retraction Valve integrated into the electric micromotor eliminates suck-back into the handpiece waterline.
