Planmeca: Planmeca Viso G7

When it comes to 3D imaging, Planmeca offers an edge with its Planmeca Ultra Low Dose—a proprietary low-dose 3D imaging protocol that enables CBCT imaging with an even lower patient radiation dose than standard panoramic imaging.

“In my practice, I’m looking at more than just teeth,” explained Dr. Drew McDonald, who took part in a DPS product review of the Planmeca Viso—a CBCT unit that combines premium image quality with high-end usability. “With Viso, I am able to truly visualize my patients’ anatomy with low-dose radiation in a single pass of the machine, so I can capture these details on even my youngest patients.”

The Planmeca Viso G7 can be adjusted easily between 3x3 cm and 30x30 cm, covering a wide range of clinical needs—from a single tooth to a full skull. The unit’s 3D sensor is also able to deliver 2D results when less detailed images are required. And because visual noise has long been a challenge when capturing small details, the new 3D endodontic imaging mode produces clearer CBCT images that are ideal for visualizing intricate root canals.

Dr. Gilad Wasserman, a Specialist in Oral Medicine at Israel’s Tel Aviv Medical Center, uses his Planmeca Viso for implant placement, extractions, and operative planning before orthognathic and trauma surgeries. “When we decrease the amount of radiation we expose our patients to,” he said, “I am very happy.”

A Smart Imaging System

One of the more advanced features of the Planmeca Viso G7 is the ability to control the interface using a touchscreen that’s integrated with a live patient view. By using a single touch, the area of scanning can be enlarged or refocused using the patient’s actual face as a guide. Planmeca Viso’s occipital support provides stability without compromising patient comfort and can be used without a chin cup thanks to the Planmeca CALM movement artifact correction algorithm. This intuitive feature cancels the effects caused by patient movement, helping ensure high-quality images even for patients who struggle to remain still.

Dr. Jay Burton of Smilemaker Orthodontics in Nashville, TN, said that he’s been able to reduce the number of retakes in his practice thanks to Planmeca CALM. “Planmeca CALM has proven to be a solid technological innovation that provides a great benefit to those imaging younger patients or, for that matter, any situation where movement might be an issue,” Dr. Burton explained.
