Single-piece construction and a unique blended neck design ensure toughness.
“This bur eats porcelain for lunch and doesn’t break when it gets to metal,” New York dentist Dr. Michael Teitelbaum said of Microcopy’s new NeoBurr 
5572 blended neck carbide. Dr. Teitelbaum was among several dentists who recently tested the bur in their practices as part of a DPS evaluation.
Microcopy introduced the NeoBurr 5572 blended neck carbide to help dentists avoid having to use up to 5 carbides, sometimes more, in completing certain dental procedures. Available on the 5572 and other select shapes, the blended neck design provides excellent durability while the single-piece construction, coupled with the elimination of the weakest point of the bur, maximizes strength, resulting in reduced breakage.
DPS evaluators who used the product in their practices over the recent 4-week evaluation period seemed to echo such claims.
Dr. Albert Clark reported no concerns after testing the burs’ durability and even trying to break them intentionally. “I tried to break the burs outside of the mouth…I did break one with excessive force and torque,” he said, but he concluded that the burs are “very durable.”
According to Microcopy, the single-piece carbide construction coupled with the blended neck design has made NeoBurr 5572 up to 70% stronger than competitive burs. Dr. John Horn said he used approximately 100 burs and experienced no breakage during any of his procedures, and Dr. Alan Krause said, “The burs just felt more solid.”
Independent testing has shown that the 5572 exhibits minimal breakage when used during the toughest restoration procedures.
In fact, not one of the NeoBurr 5572 burs broke during Dr. Chester Klos’ trial period, and he praised the blended neck design. “By creating a product that was one material, they eliminated the weld joint, which was the weak link.”
All NeoBurrs are sterilized for safety and convenience, and select shapes have a gold-plated finish to add anti-microbial benefits.
