Simplify Restorations with Single-Shade Admira Fusion x-tra
Omni-chromatic, nano-ORMOCER restorative enables bulk-filling in 4-mm increments, increasing efficiency while enhancing esthetics and long-term success

While clinicians such as Dr. Graham rely on Admira Fusion x-tra for qualities such as long-term esthetics and low polymerization shrinkage, the product also stands out due to its unique ability to match the entire shade range of human dentition in a single omni-chromatic shade. This is made possible due to the material’s nanohybrid filler technology. As light passes through the nanoparticles in the fillers, it hits the surrounding tooth structure and returns to the human eye appearing as the shade and color of the surrounding tooth structure.
As a nano-ORMOCER restorative, Admira Fusion x-tra is also highly biocompatible. Its fillers and ORMOCER matrix are based purely on silicon oxide and contain no classic monomers such as BisGMA or HEMA, eliminating the potential for such substances to be released after polymerization.
The Restorative Choice for Patient After Patient
Dr. Graham looks for several criteria when choosing a composite for posterior restorations. “As most dentists would agree, the first essential is handling,” he explained. “You have to love how the composite feels, how it allows you to place, contour, and manipulate it.” Whether warmed or not warmed, he describes Admira Fusion x-tra as a material with excellent handling. He noted that it finishes and polishes very well, so there is no compromise on the final characteristics.
“For my posterior needs, I want a universal material, one that I can choose for patient after patient, and the fact that this is a bulk fill adds even more to the story,” Dr. Graham continued. “Admira Fusion x-tra’s single shade has a true chameleon effect and it really blends in with the tooth regardless of depth.”
This is quite different than other posterior bulk fill composites, as they are often far too translucent and rarely exhibit a chameleon-type effect. In the circumstances when a doctor is restoring a somewhat shallow Class I or II preparation and the dentin is dark or
yellow, Dr. Graham recommends the routine shades of A1 and A2 to fulfill your inventory. “The beauty of Admira Fusion x-tra with its 4mm depth of cure is that you only need one layer because most composites over a flowable floor are 2-4mm in total depth,” he said.
Contributing to long-term restorative success, the nano-ORMOCER technology of Admira Fusion x-tra enables an extremely low polymerization shrinkage of 1.25% by volume—up to 50% less shrinkage than conventional composites—in conjunction with very low shrinkage stress of 3.87 MPa. These factors ensure optimal marginal integrity of the restoration. “That becomes important when you’re doing larger restorations,” Dr. Graham said.
He added that, although Admira Fusion x-tra has a unique chemistry, it can be used with all conventional bonding agents.
