UNIVERSAL, SUPRANANO FILLED DENTAL COMPOSITE USES  SPHERICAL FILLERS

The unique technology behind Estelite Sigma Quick is designed to deliver a flexible shade-matching process, exceptional esthetics, and long-term wear resistance. With the supranano spherical fillers, one shade can invisibly blend within several shades. Here, Dr. James Chae shares his years of experience using the composite in his practice in Diamond Bar, CA.

About 6 years ago, I was actively looking for a great composite material for the cosmetic work that I do, and I saw information about Estelite Sigma Quick from Tokuyama Dental. They were promising a lot of the things I was looking for, so I asked for some samples. Right from the first time I used it, I was impressed. The shading blended very nicely with the natural teeth. In fact, it’s a very easy product with which to match shades. It didn’t stick to the instruments and it molded very well within the anatomy of the tooth. I’ve been using it ever since.

That’s given me a chance to really see how this composite holds up. I have patients who received composites 6 years ago. One of the things I do in my practice is take pictures of my patients and track the work we do. Through these photos, I’ve been able to see how little we’ve needed to replace or correct these composites, how the color has remained consistent, and how tough this composite is.

It’s important to patients as well that this is a tough composite that doesn’t wear down. No one wants to have fillings redone or adjusted. Estelite Sigma Quick really cuts down on having to revisit these composites and do corrections. That saves me a lot of time and the patients are very happy. And the shading blends very nicely with their natural teeth, which of course they love. It also reacts very well to polishing. My patients are always very happy with the cosmetic result.

A lot of this has to do with the shape of the composite. It has a great consistency that aids in molding it to the anatomy of a tooth. It’s not a sticky composite; it has a creamy texture that helps deal with the specific contours and cusps of the tooth. It packs well and is easy to shape with the acorn carver.

Some composites cure too quickly, which can be a problem. Estelite Sigma Quick has a good working time—from 60 to 90 seconds. That’s perfect for exercising your own personal technique. It gives me the perfect opportunity to really fit a tooth’s unique anatomy.

My practice has a very active Instagram page, and I’ve posted many times about the product with pictures of the great results I’ve had from it (such as the before-and-after photos above). Patients ask me about it all the time. Of course, I also tell many of my colleagues about this product and consistently recommend it.
