There’s nothing pleasant about a tooth extraction—not for the patient, nor for the dentist. But there is an instrument that can help make the procedure as atraumatic as possible. Some dentists have even called it “magic” and their “guardian angel.” They’re referring to Directa Dental’s Physics Forceps, an extraction system that provides a predictable, yet unconventional method to extract teeth.
Despite its name, Physics Forceps are not “forceps.” Instead, the instrument operates similarly to an elevator, placing a constant, steady load on the tooth, allowing “creep” to build, which releases hyaluronic acid. The hyaluronic acid breaks down periodontal ligaments, enabling the tooth to be released using simple tweezers. In most cases, the breakdown caused by hyaluronic acid is faster than when conventional extraction methods are employed, such as using intermittent, rocking, or brute strength force. For both patients and dentists, the process is less traumatic and requires less physical force.

One System, Multiple Extractions
Physics Forceps also can be used with decayed or broken-down teeth, endodontically treated teeth, fractured or fragile teeth, curved or long-rooted molars and cuspids, or any tooth that might be challenging to extract with conventional instruments.
In this age of minimally invasive dentistry, dentists can preserve more surrounding bone and tissue, which makes it ideal for implants, and, in the case of crown and bridge work, there are few, if any ridges.
